How Much Should a Coaching Institute Actually Pay for a Website?

One number decides everything

A coaching institute's website has exactly one job: turn a parent's late-night search into an admission enquiry.

Not "look premium." Not "have an animation on the homepage." Not "include a photo gallery of the annual function." Those are things institutes get sold. The job is the enquiry.

Once you accept that, the pricing question gets easy — because you can ignore every feature that does not serve it.

What the site must do

Picture the actual customer. A parent in Mango, 10pm, on a mid-range Android phone with two bars of signal, searching "best NEET coaching in Jamshedpur." They will open three or four results and give each one about ten seconds.

To survive those ten seconds, your site needs:

  • To load fast on a weak connection. A heavy site with a full-screen video loses before it is read. This is the single most-ignored requirement.
  • Courses, batches, timings and fees — visible without hunting. If the fee is hidden, a large share of parents assume the worst and leave.
  • Faculty, with real names and real qualifications. Parents are buying teachers, not a building.
  • Results with specifics. "Our students got selected" is worth nothing. "Ranks, names, year" is worth everything.
  • An enquiry form and a WhatsApp button. Most parents will not fill a form. They will WhatsApp. Make that one tap.

That is the whole list. Everything else is decoration.

What it costs

Type of siteCostHonest verdict
One-page template₹8,000 – ₹15,000Fine for a brand-new single-subject institute
Proper 5–8 page site₹18,000 – ₹35,000Where most institutes belong
CMS you update yourself₹25,000 – ₹75,000Worth it if you change batches often
Site + student portal₹75,000+Only for large multi-branch institutes

Most coaching institutes in Jamshedpur should be spending ₹18,000 to ₹35,000. Below that, you are usually buying a template that will not load well on the phone that matters. Above that, you are usually buying features that do not produce a single extra admission.

The break-even maths

Here is the calculation nobody does before signing.

Say your annual course fee is ₹15,000 and your website costs ₹25,000 to build.

You need two extra admissions in a year to break even. The third one is profit, and every one after that is profit for as long as the site is alive.

Two admissions. In a year. That is a low bar — which is exactly why a website is usually worth it for an institute, and exactly why overspending is so tempting and so unnecessary. At ₹1,00,000, you need seven admissions before you have earned back a rupee.

Where the money is better spent

If you have ₹35,000 for the year, this is how we would actually split it — including the part that does not come to us:

  • ₹25,000 — a fast, honest 5–8 page website
  • ₹0 — Google Business Profile, filled in properly, with reviews from current parents
  • ₹10,000 — a small, tightly targeted local ad budget during admission season

The free item in the middle will likely out-perform the paid ones for a local institute. Ask your current parents how they found you. It is almost never the website alone — it is the search, the map listing, the reviews, and then the website closing it.

Three things not to pay for

  • A mobile app. Parents will not install an app for a coaching institute. This gets sold constantly and used almost never.
  • A student login portal, on day one. Build it when students are actually asking for it, not before.
  • Stock photos of foreign students in a foreign library. Parents can tell. It quietly costs you trust, which is the only thing you are really selling.

The fee question

Publish your fees.

We know the objection: competitors will see them. They will see them anyway — a competitor can send one WhatsApp message. Meanwhile every parent who cannot find your fee assumes it is more than they can afford and quietly leaves.

Being the institute in Jamshedpur that publishes its fees openly is a competitive advantage, not a leak. It is the same reason this article has real numbers in it.
